Having recently relocated to Devon and with a growing family, our client wanted to double the size of their farmhouse in mid Devon.
We discussed the required work and negotiated the contract direct with the client, mindful to keep the costs and programme realistic. With private refurbishment and building work we always want to deliver our client’s vision and, with this particular project, we were extremely conscious the client wanted any new additions to be in keeping with the farmhouse’s original style.
Central to this vision was to finish the external envelope with matching traditional English Flemish bond brick, complemented by bespoke high-performance hardwood sash windows, again, following the guise of the existing farmhouse. So we took the time to source an exact brickwork match. And we ensured that the new windows were exact replicas – paying particular attention to the vertical glazed spacing between the panes.
The roofing followed the same philosophy: using traditional natural slate tiling and lead work.
Internally the traditional style flows through the house from the existing to the extension creating a seamless transition from old to new, including traditional carpentry and joinery, ironmongery, floor finishes and sanitary ware throughout. We also had to carefully consider how we separated the occupied main house from the construction phase, whilst creating brand new openings on both the 1stand 2nd floor.
The client was so happy with the quality of the build and our work ethic that the scope of works were extended part way through the project.
Our client commented: “Ease bring the commercial project management disciplines of cost control, efficiency and tailored build quality to private building projects, as well as the friendliness and skill of their staff.
We have worked with numerous construction companies ranging from the good to indifferent on previous projects. Ease is in a different league – really outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend them.”
Following on from this we have carried out two further projects for our client and look forward to our next collaboration.
