Watchful Mary is an exciting new development by Watergate Bay Hotel. A mixed use facility combining an RNLI and Surf life saving club on the ground floor and a new continental style bar on the upper floor the Watchful Mary is a unique addition to the Watergate Bay location. Offering coffee and pastries in the morning and small sharing plates and drinks with a story in the evening you will struggle to find a better view than the one offered here, and if you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive green flash, a ray of colour just as the sun slips from view, a mystery of the natural world which the Watchful Mary calls its namesake. Combining classic construction techniques with modern, beach club feel interior design, an exclusive aesthetic like this has not been seen before in such a unique location.
With exterior facades clad in timber and large, bi-folding windows to the front elevation to maximise indoor/outdoor feel and natural light combined with subdued interior lighting, bespoke Venetian plasterwork and a distinctive timber ceiling detail mirroring the beautiful ripples and undulations of the beach below, the Watchful Mary will become a major asset to the Watergate Bay offering, and one the We Are Ease team feel privileged to have spearheaded the delivery of.
With this project, there were multiple challenges and changes in building design to increase not only the building footprint but the heating and ventilation strategy to meet the Clients budget, and combined with this the late introduction of including for the FF&E scope, it was a testament to We Are Ease’s work ethic and process that this was delivered within the original time-frame and for less than the Client’s original traditional builders tendered price.
