Convenience Store Refurbishment and Extension
We were approached by Co-op to deliver a new store on a constrained Axminster site, a planning embargo on new builds due to East Devon’s nitrates restrictions meant the project pivoted to a full refurbishment and extension of the existing property – achieving the same outcome through a more complex route. Working within these planning constraints demanded a careful and technically robust approach.
We were approached by Co-op to deliver a new store on a constrained Axminster site, a planning embargo on new builds due to East Devon’s nitrates restrictions meant the project pivoted to a full refurbishment and extension of the existing property – achieving the same outcome through a more complex route. Working within these planning constraints demanded a careful and technically robust approach.
Rather than a straightforward new build, the team undertook a comprehensive overhaul of the existing structure: new floors, a new roof, removal of the existing lift, and a building extension facilitated by a series of structural steel goalpost frames. The result is a modern, fully fitted convenience store arranged across the entire ground floor and the majority of the first floor, complete with lift and stair access.
