Overview

December 2020 saw heavy rainfall lead to Charlestown’s 300 year old leat burst its banks, localised flooding, and the subsequent closure of the Eden Project. We Are Ease were mobilised to conduct emergency flood response by over pumping the surface water to the connecting leat 400m away. Once the site was made safe and local hydrology stabilised, a permanent emergency pumping solution could be designed.

Following the design phase, excavation in hard material commenced to facilitate the installation of a reinforced concrete pump chamber. Concurrent trenching, rising main, and electrical sub-main installations were then completed to commission the pump sets and electrical control panel. Final silt trap, screen, mezzanine floor, and headwall installations then allowed for the successful releasing of the leat water once again. Leaving the Eden Project more resilient to heavy rainfall and flooding in the future.
